Each Explorer is responsible to learn and progress to better serve its patrol. To that end, during the Patrol Council, his or her qualities, competencies and development areas are reviewed. To acquire a new competency, an Explorer will be coached by a more experienced one.

For example, an Explorer planning to become the patrol’s cook will wear the corresponding action post insignia, and will be assisted by the former patrol’s cook, who already knows how to cook, and is therefore experienced.

After acquiring experience and skills, and validating a number of steps, the Explorer will earn a badge. He or she will then coach another Explorer.

Each patrol, includes the following 7 action posts:

Jester

In charge of songs, artistic talents within the patrol, patrol’s vigils, and the quality of vigil’s skits. The jester helps each patrol’s member improve their artistic talent (e.g., drawing, music).

Pioneer

Responsible for the patrol’s comfort during camp, proper camp arrangement, tent setup, equipment’s maintenance, and knowledgeable about wood type and nature in general.

Messenger

Handles the patrol’s internal and external communications (e.g., social media, email, phone, guest book, … ), games strategies, observation techniques, messaging, and patrol’s camouflage.

Athlete-medic

In charge of the patrol’s members well-being, fitness, hygiene, first-aid kit and selected first-aid procedures.

Explorer

Manages the patrol’s travel arrangements and its topographic equipment (e.g., maps, compass). The explorer takes to lead to meet other patrols, helps patrol members get acquainted with their environment.

Cook

Handles the patrol’s meals : pots, pans and utensils cleanliness; proper food preparation conditions; and balanced diet. The cook handles grocery shopping, accounting, fire, and fire safety.

Liturgist

In charge of the patrol’s prayers and spiritual life. It’s an important mission, led with the PC or by the PC him- or herself since they’re in charge of their patrol’s souls.
