The Promise is a commitment made by youths at the beginning of their Explorer journey, usually during their first year with their patrol.
During the Unit’s Council, chiefs examine each promise candidate’s aspirations, evaluate how they fit in their patrol, review their familiarity with basic Explorer techniques, before sponsoring them so that the Unit Chief accepts them to pronounce their promise.
The Promise is a commitment, a decision made freely, and the beginning of the Explorer’s life.
